The Tall Ships Races

Step back in time and experience life on the quayside as it once was, at Strandkaien outside Stavanger Maritime Museum.

Meet skilled craftspeople who bring coastal traditions to life, from the Viking Age to the present day. Take part in activities for all ages and discover history up close.

Programme daily during The Tall Ships Races, 10.00 am–6.00 pm
(10.00 am–4.00 pm on Saturday 25 July)

  • Vikings in a Viking tent preparing for a voyage
  • Sail weaving
  • Stonemasons at work
  • Ropewalk – try your hand at rope-making!
  • Traditional crafts using a shaving horse and classic hand tools
  • Blacksmith – forging boat nails and hooks
  • Traditional boatbuilding – help build a clinker-built boat
  • Timber-framed construction – watch a traditional timber structure rise throughout the festival
  • Pool with model boats
  • Take a shark selfie!
  • Paper boat folding
  • Dedicated Mablis activity course
  • Food tastings and museum shop

This event is organised in collaboration with Stavanger Maritime Museum, IDDIS Norwegian Printing Museum and Norwegian Canning Museum, Engøyholmen Coastal Culture Centre, the Museum of Archaeology, Kristian Bjortveit (blacksmith), and The Tall Ships Races 2026.
