Nordic Conference for Underwater Archaeology

Stavanger maritime museum is hosting the Nordic Conference on Maritime Archaeology.

Call for abstracts 
Do you have exciting results, new research, or reflections you would like to share with colleagues from across the Nordic region? We aim to produce a publication with articles from NKM and plan to create a special issue of the peer-reviewed journal Maritime perspektiver. All speakers are invited to write articles based on their presentations. Sessions and keynote speakers will be planned based on submitted abstracts. 
The deadline for submitting abstracts is 12 Februay 2026. Abstracts should be sent to Svein V. Nielsen, who will also serve as editor for the publication. The post-Conference tentative deadline for submitting a manuscript is primo December 2026.

There is space for 50 participants.

7 May Conference day 1 

10.00- 16:00 confence Archaeological Museum, UiS 

18:00: Mingling and fingerfood at Stavanger Maritime Museum 

20:00: Conferance dinner at Stavanger Martime Museum 

8 May Conference day 2 

09:00- 16:00 confence Archaeological Museum, UiS 

17:30 tour of Norwegian Oil Museum. Which also has focus on pioneer diving in the oil industry. 

19:00 dinner TBA 

9 May excursion 

Bus ride to Mosterøy and Utstein Monestary. With stops at iron age boathouses and farms.  
 

10.5 divingtrip. 

Trip to a suitable divesite close to Stavanger. Air cylinders can be borrowed from the museum.
