Study the ship wreck from Orre Beach
The model shows the hull plank, a section of a ship’s side, found at Orre beach in 2016. It was excavated and sent for conservation in 2017. The wreck was examined by Stavanger Maritime Museum.
Based on construction techniques, the plank is believed to date from the 19th century and to have been built by British shipwrights. Chieftain, which wrecked at Orre beach in 1881, was built in Dumbarton, Scotland, and is therefore a strong candidate. However, given the large number of shipwrecks recorded along the Jæren coast, it’s difficult to rule out other known — or unknown — wrecks.
